This is quite …
This is quite interesting, some nice features in there. And its impressive on that hardware. Tis a shame that Be Inc. went bust
i actually might get BeOS PE just out of interest (asuming the community has kept it going)

It seems quite …
It seems quite amazing how all those videos can run so smoothly on such hardware…

Demovideo is on …
Demovideo is on dual Pentium II-266! 8 movies at the same time on a Pentium 1500! Real (pre-emtive) multitasking!

BeOS was the most …
BeOS was the most massively multi-threaded ever made. Everything ran on threads, even within the Kernel. The system libraries were designed so that no resources ever blocked and ui/worker stuff HAD to be on separate threads, which meant smooth operation no matter how many things are happening at once. Even stuff like hard drive failure or a scratched CD wouldn’t block, even the applications accessing the devices. Man I miss Be.

Just imagine what …
Just imagine what it could do on modern computers.
Performance increases have not been analogous with hardware improvements.

Because to apple at …
Because to apple at the time, Vanity was more important than Usability and Performance.

My Macintosh …
My Macintosh Classic II can play several video files at once… slowly. =P I’ve seen an Amstrad CPC do something similar too. A game boy with a Game Boy Camera plugged into it can almost act as a video capture devise. Amazing, huh?

Me too, considering …
Me too, considering Apple focuses alot of their efforts on multimedia. It was a stupid move by Apple, I would much rather see a reincarnated BeOS than an obselete sluggish FreeBSD/Mach operating system.

Apple looked at …
Apple looked at Solaris, Windows NT, Pink, Be, NeXTSTEP and others until finally deciding on what to use for their next-generation OS. Apple did initially favor Be. However, Be was not as mature as NeXTSTEP and had other disadvantages (development environment was not as good for one). Still, I hope both Microsoft and Apple will continue to learn from Be’s aggressive performance.

“Both BeOS and OS X …
“Both BeOS and OS X were designed to address shortcomings in Mac OS. BeOS was designed and built by a team of mostly ex-Apple engineers, and Be’s CEO had been head of product development at Apple for many years. Both offered Mac-like grace coupled with a Unix shell. Both were committed to providing a great user experience. Both put the goals of media content creation and consumption high on the list of priorities.” birdhouseDOTorg/macos/beos_osx/

If Apple had chosen …
If Apple had chosen BeOS, they’d probably not be around anymore.
With the acquisition of NeXT, Steve Jobs was brought back to Apple. Without him, Apple is nothing but fail.

BeOS was a very …
BeOS was a very advanced Operating System for the time, the way it handles Preemptive-Multitasking, and thread processing, it could have pwnd Windows, if only it had a larger user-base, and a easier to program API. I guess the OS can still suck but as long as there is a multitude of Applications and a good API e.g. (Win32 and DirectX) it will keep the user happy, like Windows per say.
