ReactOS is a nice …
ReactOS is a nice project, however it’s purpose is to develop a free windows-compatible OS (just like Linux was a free Unix-compatible one). However it will not be as successful as Linux. Linux was free and based on the good software, this is free and based on commercial garbage. Sorry

It is important to …
It is important to know that this project (still is a project) is 10 years old.
It is on a pre-beta (or alpha if you prefer)stage.
It is made by unpaid volunteers. Compared to Microsoft , Apple, Sun and so their budget is ridiculous.
It advances at veeeeeeery slooooooooow speed.
Does not support SATA drives. So you have to use a live CD, an IDE HD or a virtual machine install.

Why to create this …
Why to create this and not to switch directly to Linux?
-Well, the problem is the adiction created by the 25 years of Microsft 95 per cent of market domination.
And the each time more draconian licensing policies from our Lord Microsoft.
And “old” programs that no longer are compatible with the new Windows versions.

“More stable…”? …
That’s a great project but I don’t see any need for yet another Windows, registry and dll hell. The design is best left to M$.
“More stable…”? Well… I don’t think so. My WinXP works well after 2 years without reinstallation. ReactOS gracefully crashed at first

Sorry, it’s clear …
Sorry, it’s clear that many people that sees YouTube videos are sensless and that do not read out previous comments.
What stability can be expected from an alpha stage project?
This is an Alpha stage project. Don’t you know what an Alpha stage software project means? -Well, check out the Wikipedia.

If this OS makes it …
If this OS makes it to the Beta and stable stage, Microsoft is done for, this comunity is based on the Linux technology but using the NT kernel wisely, this could be a version of NT Kernel based OS that can be a rival to Vista and XP, hopely one of the most stable versions.

If the ReactOS …
If the ReactOS project succeds, thre could be two versions, the most stable and most complete software equiped version, and the barebone verion(No software), the Paid version colud be pre-installed in low end computers such has the Cheap ass Via C7 2.0Mhz, or the low voltage Celeron, so computers can fall to a price of $250 or even lower, in wich could be bougth by non profit organizations, and poor famalies.
July 7th, 2007 at 12:51 pm
Imagine what poor …
Imagine what poor famalies can do with a Computer, the Via C7 is a extreemly low Voltage, so low it can run on a solar panel, plus this windows compatible OS, Linux is too complicated for some one new in computers, but Windows is so easy to use but too unstable and easaly hacked, but if the hacker and programing community make a flawless shell like ReactOS the wolrd can be changed.

DC based power is …
DC based power is the product of electrical current and potential . So, it’s not just voltage [its also current].
Secondly, why would you want to run the processor off of a solar panel, instead of the computer’s power supply, which will require a different power source?

Dudes, a reliable …
Dudes, a reliable source told me that the ReactOS project had been suspended. Reason: one of the contributors threw a spanner in the works by contributing PROPRIETARY software .. which would have led to ReactOS being a illegal product. Is this report true? If not, what’s the latest news. I guess I can always look this up, but I’m hoping one of youse can help point me to the best quality news of this.

They’ve been running a code audit for a while now and are 99.9% done according to Wikipedia, no copyrighted code found.

OK that’s good news …
OK that’s good news. But can I ask you something–you don’t have to answer yourself, you could simply point me to some websites: I believe that Windows source code is “closed”; ie only authorized MS people have access to it. Same for other proprietary s/w. So how was the code sneaked in? (To include web addresses in your reply, you can “snipurl” them, and type only the variant part.)

Microsoft licenses …
Microsoft licenses the source code of Windows to certain people. All it really takes is someone who has access to it that’s willing to give it away.

Right and wrong: …
Right and wrong: It’s use to be a compatible “clone” of windows, a bit like Linux is a “clone” of Unix…
So you wrong…
But you right to: It’s a bit to much Classic…
Why not put an other bar at the right for A Dock?
December 27th, 2007 at 3:58 pm
I’m a bit …
I’m a bit enthusiastic about this project (even though I have left Windows for real OSes), I wonder if it will be able to use this for i.e. games (which is a reason many people stick with Win), if it can be less bloated than XP and if it can support DX (which I don’t know) it has a fair good chance to use as a high-performace OS for gaming (which would be pretty cool)

It’s actually a Windows 5 (2000, xp, server 2003) clone, I’m waiting for the Beta release.
They are doing a great job, I wish them all the best.
