Though I would come check out your rack video since you checked out mine.

Nice home setup. Sort of looks like the setup I had in my home years ago.

I see from the comments you already have started to experience the pay now or pay latter with the power consumption issues. Nothing beats having the first hand experiences.

    The bill is …
The bill is expensive. It is about $140 a month right now in the winter and about $300 a month in the summer. Generating about 4000 BTUs of heat. and in between 1600 and 2000 KWs per month.

    Hey, there’s a …
Hey, there’s a reason Red Hat keeps putting out more and more AND EVEN MORE versions of FC. The durn thing never seems to run quite right. I gave up after 5, but I think they’re up to 9 or so now. Ubuntu, Knoppix, and some others have far better distros.

However, no matter whose Linux you are using the updating always sucks out loud. In my professional opinion Microschlock has the best updating system by far. Their products may be crappy, but their update beats everybody else hands down.

Roger that. Just not all available at the same time…otherwise I’d simply have to turn all my profits over to Commonwealth Edison.

Wow. I mean wow. That is an amazing amount of hardware. Do you mind if I ask what you do with it? I am thinking about doing a setup for ssh tunneling and possibly my web hosting.

    All that and you …
All that and you running windows on there? waste of hardware. slap some Red hat or CentOS on there and get your moneys worth.. Also are you doing the backup with TSM or some windows proprietary software? Right on bruh, I love what you have going on… Have you tried PXE (If applicable. Not a compaq enthusiast) on the box with the CD rom problem? Over all good start.

  21. piles2006 Says:

    all that is just …
all that is just not needed you can scale down and still be able to do all that. just not needed. thanks for helping kill the enviroment with overkill amount of hardware. so you can maintain your pretend enviroment.
think anout it how much is your data centre in terms of climate change. same goes for the rest of u ppl with overkill data centres reading this

Sell all of it and …
Sell all of it and buy one killer server. Use that server as a virtual box.

Same performance, less noise, heat, lower elec bill ;-)

    Ps:Nice servers

  24. inspiredbymetal Says:

    Why so many servers …
    Why so many servers!

We have around 8 servers running a mixture of windows 2003 and CentOS which supports over 800 desktop computers in our domain and remote users to the various web applications (PHP/mySQL stuff)

The hardware is a mixture of Dell Poweredge 2950/2850 and unbranded generic intel servers. However 8 servers even with over 800 desktop computers is overkill, however how many clients can you have on your domain at home? All of one?

Seems like a huge waste of power and money!

  25. turners1 Says:

    No, no, it all …
No, no, it all depends on what his doing. I run 500 servers, for web-hosting. I suggest that you reinstall those servers with Debian, its much more suitable for servers.

By the way kalitron, with that non booting server, try reseating the ram, if you need a hand, give me a yell.
