Micheal Tiemann co-founder Cygnus Solutions states how, with the help of the GNU Project software and Richard Stallman, he learned to develop free(unrestricted) software. During his career Tiemann spent a long time downloading GNU software.

His company Cygnus has been acquired by Red Hat Inc.

He is president of the Open Source Initiative.
